“Mitt Romney Moment” seems to be an introduction of Ian Paisley’s son. I didn’t here anything about Mit. Having said that, none of the faculty or staff of Bob Jones could even afford to think about sending their son on a 2 week vacation in the south of France and follow that up with an entire family vacation in Italy. We slave, they play. Disgusting!

Our allusion to Mr. Romney was just in reference to his occasional gaffes in regard to his personal wealth. Bragging about European vacations with his buddies to his underpaid employees made Dr. Bob sound a bit Romney-esque (in our humble opinion).

I loved it when Stephen referred to students as “customers.” Does BJU REALLY see itself as a ministry, or just a business in the guise of a ministry?

He didn’t misspeak. It IS a business first. Witness GFA’s sale of WMUU – all business, no thought of the longevity of one of the most legitimate ministries BJU has ever been a part of.

@Benjamin – Its a ministry in the way Binny Hinn, Jan & Paul Crouch, and New Spring Church in Anderson, SC are ministries. They are there to minister money to their leaders!

As a graduate from 33 years ago, I can tell you that the primary mission of BJU is to feed the beast. Sad to say, they have many of the hallmarks of a cult, including never questioning the decision of the leader. When I was a student, it was against God’s plan to date someone outside of your race. This meant whites and blacks, since those were apparently the only two races. You could be shipped for interracial dating. The BJU churches who supplied them students expected such a stand. It was God’s plan. Years later, God apparently changed his mind and told Bob about it. So now it’s ok. The issue is this: BJU has for decades taken social issues and made them matters of theological right and wrong–all to bring in students and their tuition. The issue is not, and never has been, scripture. It’s money. Always. Oh, by the way, this isn’t about interracial dating. I’m happily married outside my race. The truth is, money is god at BJU.

Nobody can tell you that you did not see and hear what you personally experienced. You are very perceptive. Facts change, Truth does not. BJU acts like a school that does not know the difference between truth and fact.

Of course it is a cult. That’s what born-again fundamentalism is. Period.
Yes, I am a former graduate of bju. Yes, I’ve outgrown them. Yes, I’m happy. Now.
No, I’m not bitter. Yes, the “scales” have fallen from my eyes. 🙂

If they are not a cult, at very least, they use cult techniques. I remember Bob Jones Jr. admitting, during Vespers, that they use mind-control methods, laughing it off while he spoke. Furthermore, it is next to impossible to be alone on campus. They would point out that that can’t be helped with the number of people in a limited space.
Yes, and that is precisely how a cult would answer that concern. Let no one say that they are not SLICK. A cult knows that if an individual gets alone, they are likely to start thinking for themselves. That situation is not going to be permitted.
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and swims like a duck… it MIGHT be a duck!

I think I’m missing what I should be getting from the Living Gallery clip. Any tips?

Also, I think it would be good historical proof to have clips “side by side” of the III railing against homosexuality and then Stephen from Gay Chapel week’s Monday message saying how they are his close friends and his finds them “fascinating”.
